Delicate

I was looking for a new matcha to try to replace my favorite Iponmastu, and I wanted to try this new cultivar.
More vegetal, greener, almost marine, but still without bitterness. Another great success.

A great matcha

This is the one I'm saving for the weekend.
It's excellent and very smooth.
Thank you.

Very, very good matcha

My life is no longer complete without matcha!!! It has become a perfect and healthy addiction.
Samidori has a beautiful colour and a taste that is neither too strong nor too weak—I can't explain it, but it has little or no bitterness, and that's what I like about it.

A history of excellence

You’ve probably already seen hundreds of matchas labelled “ceremonial grade” in shops. The reality? Most of the time, it’s marketing. A true ceremonial grade matcha isn’t just a pretty label. It’s a tea that meets specific criteria, validated by a tea master. And guess what? Most of the “ceremonial grade” matchas sold today actually match our entry-level matcha.

We at Kumiko did things differently. We worked with Tyas Sosen, the only European Japanese tea ceremony master, to create a matcha that is truly, truly worthy of the name. Our matcha isn’t just a simple product. It’s a story, a journey, an experience...

Strengths

  • Made from Samidori grapes and a unique terroir grown by our partner farmer Azuma-san
  • Organic matcha
  • Sensory experience approved by our tea master Tyas Sosen in Kyoto
  • Rich in antioxidants, which help combat oxidative stress, L-theanine, which promotes better focus and improves mood, and theine, flavonoids, and quinic acid, which improve and support cognitive function thanks to its high flavonoid and quinic acid content.
  • Ceremonial grade matcha

The quest for authentic ceremonial grade matcha

The story between Tyas and me began long before this matcha. I met him when he was already a unique bridge between the West and Japan, the first European to become a tea master of the Enshu-Ryu tea ceremony. It was an encounter that would transform my view of matcha and give rise to an extraordinary project: to create a matcha that would be truly worthy of a traditional ceremony.

This is not just another marketing product, but a tea that tells a story, respecting every gesture and every code of koicha.

Tyas explained the complexity to me. A true ceremonial grade matcha is not just a matter of taste. It is a philosophy. The ability to produce a smooth froth, a deep green colour, a fineness that transcends a simple drink.

Tyas knew that a true ceremonial grade matcha had to meet certain almost spiritual criteria.

An exceptional terroir

We went to meet Azuma-san, an exceptional producer, on her isolated sloping plot. A unique piece of land that produces the rare and precious Samidori cultivar.

Together, we worked to develop a tea that would be worthy of the grandest ceremonies. Tyas, as a tea master, personally approved each step. He now uses it in his own ceremonies, with tourists and Japanese locals alike.

A rare elegance

This matcha is the result of the work of three enthusiasts: Tyas, guardian of traditions, Valentin, explorer of flavours, and Azuma-San, the last heir to a family tradition.

Une sensory experience, a living heritage that we savor like a fine wine, with respect and wonder.

If you would like to try a matcha approved by a tea master, in koicha as well as in everyday consumption, cultivated by Azuma San, already known for her Ipponmatsu ce Ceremonial grade matcha is made for you!

L'aventure Kumiko Matcha
