Between the ages of 18 and 28, I adopted the pseudonym "Super Vagabond": following my heart problems, I chose to lead a life of wandering and to make every day an adventure.
How can I make a good matcha tea with a nice froth for my morning ritual when I'm in the middle of the Laotian jungle? This mini bamboo travel set meets that need.
Dimitri (left) and I (right) enjoyed taking motorcycle trips in Asia.
Being able to prepare matcha tea anywhere and anytime with a minimal matcha tea set while traveling, hiking, or on the go is a great pleasure!
Even today, I never travel without a tin of matcha tea and a whisk so I can enjoy and share a good matcha 🍵 💚
This mini travel set contains a mini foldable bamboo scoop to properly scoop your matcha, a mini bamboo whisk to give the matcha tea its creamy and delicious froth, and a bamboo case for traveling.
The bamboo matcha whisk (called chasen in Japanese) is handmade from a single piece of bamboo in the Nara region by Hirata-san and his father, our specialist artisan partners. It is not possible to produce these bamboo whisks with a machine, which is why they are all unique.
The bamboo scoop (called chashaku in Japanese) is traditionally used to scoop a small quantity of matcha to make tea. This scoop is carved from a piece of bamboo and steamed to be bent by hand. It is a process that requires a lot of patience and dexterity so as not to break the bamboo.
To complete your travel kit, you will need matcha tea, and you can use any small container you have on hand as a bowl (when traveling, I use a small titanium camping cup).
Use and care
To remove the mini whisk from its case, hold it by the middle:

Caution: if the mini whisk is pushed too far into its case, it may be difficult to remove.
When not in use, it is best to remove the whisk from its case, as leaving it there all the time can cause it to become damaged and bent. Storing it on a naoshi whisk holder is ideal for keeping the whisk in good shape.
Follow the instructions in our matcha tea preparation guide to use these accessories.
Be sure to always keep these delicate items dry and wipe them with a dry cloth after use. Do not stock them in direct sunlight, in a place that is too ventilated (in the wind, near air conditioning) or exposed to temperature changes (near an oven or heat source, radiator, etc.).
