A traditional and unique bowl

The "volcano" bowl is a chawan in porcelain, faithful to Japanese traditions. Each piece is deliberately imperfect: in the art of tea in Japan, imperfection is celebrated as a reflection of authenticity and uniqueness. No bowl is identical to another. Its flat base makes it particularly practical for whisking matcha with a chasen (bamboo whisk).

Produced in small batches of only 40 to 50 pieces, it is a rare piece that reflects the wabi-sabi philosophy: beauty, simplicity and uniqueness.

Preparing matcha with a traditional chawan bowl

  • Pour one to two matcha scoops into a chawan bowl, then add a little cold water.
  • Whisk with a bamboo whisk until you obtain a fine, smooth froth.
  • Add hot water at around 70 degrees (caution: do not use boiling water).
