The Story...

During my visits to Warsaw, I was often amazed by the magnificent ceramics I discovered there. Poland has a rich ceramic tradition, and I realised how important these creations are in the culinary world.

So I started looking for who made this kind of ceramics, and that's when I came across Michal from Pracownia Shadowland.

When I visited her workshop, I was captivated by her ability to marier forms Japanese ancestral with textures inspired by seascapes PolishLet me tell you its story...

Michal, Ceramic Artisan

Michal, an enthusiastic ceramist, specializes in creating unique ceramics for Japanese restaurants in Poland. Based in Gdansk, on the Baltic coast, he draws his inspiration from the seascapes and Japanese art. Born into a family of artists, he studied fine arts and devoted himself to ceramics after acquiring his own kiln in 2015.

Since then, Michal has been crafting pieces authentic for a clientele refinedHer approach blends influences marines and Japanese, giving life to unique tableware and bowl collections, appreciated by gourmet tables.

A word from Michal: "We chose ceramics because we felt it had chosen us; it is the material we feel most comfortable working with and expressing ourselves through. Over the past six years, we have specialized in creating our own shapes of plates, cups, and bowls; we ended up creating our own product line and opening a small but efficient factory."

The manufacturing process

The bowls and whisk holders are made by Michał from stoneware. Most are thrown on a potter's wheel, but some models are constructed from a ball of clay.

Each piece is fired twice in an electric kiln. The second firing with the glaze reaches temperatures of 1250 degrees Celsius. All the glazes we use are, of course, food safe.

Colour nuances vary depending on their position in the kiln due to heat variations, and the applied glaze gives each bowl a unique personality.

It is a conscious decision to keep that element of the unexpected, and for me, that's what really makes the charm of his ceramics. Not everything is calibrated as in industrial production.

A sublime matcha ritual 🍵

Using Michal's bowls and naoshi transforms the preparation of matcha into a soothing moment. The slightly hollowed bottom of the bowl collects the suspended matcha for a final concentrated and flavoursome sip. Its smooth texture and applied enamel create a play of light, making each ceremony unique.

Each piece is a special and unique work of art, to be ordered now if it "calls" to you, either as a treat for yourself or as a beautiful gift.

When preparing matcha tea, leave most of the bowl empty to admire the colour of the matcha during your own matcha tea ritual. Note the texture and reflections of the matcha.

Immerse yourself in the collection and discover the set that resonates with your own essence.
