An ancestral know-how passed down from generation to generation

The set includes a matcha whisk (chasen) and a smoked bamboo scoop, both hand-crafted by master artisan Hirata-san and his father, heirs to expertise passed down through several generations.

For more than twenty years, Hirata-san has maintained the same ancestral techniques that are 500 years old, ensuring exceptional quality for each chasen. As his father used to say: “The taste and enjoyment of matcha tea depend on the quality of the chasen. If the chasen is high quality, then the matcha will have an excellent flavour.”

Noble materials and wabi-sabi aesthetics

The matcha scoop, meanwhile, is a truly unique piece, realised from dark smoked bamboo recovered from above the hearths of old Japanese houses that are hundreds of years old. Its color and natural marks, imbued with wabi-sabi, tell a story and give each spoon a precious uniqueness. The naoshi black ceramic whisk holder completes the set, bringing both elegance and functionality to the whole.

Preparing matcha with a traditional chawan bowl

  • Pour one to two matcha scoops into a chawan bowl, then add a little cold water.
  • Whisk with a bamboo whisk until you obtain a fine, smooth froth.
  • Add hot water at around 70 degrees (caution: do not use boiling water).
