A work of art

This is the third one I've ordered. I keep one in its box as a collector's item because I consider them to be true works of art!

Very nice product

Lightweight, effective, beautifully packaged. It's a very nice chasen.

Artisanal Whisk

Excellent whisk, very fine finish, lightweight and very pleasant to use.

Since I got it, there's been a huge difference compared to a cheap, traditional whisk. The froth forms more quickly, without large bubbles. The froth is smooth.

Thank you for this chasen.

An artisanal masterpiece from the Hirata family

Manufactured Entirely by hand by Hirata-san and his father, Japanese master artisans, this exceptional chasen combines tradition, precision, and passion. Passed down from generation to generation, their ancestral know-how is based on techniques that are 500 years old. Each whisk, rare and precious, is carefully crafted to offer shinari – this unique flexibility which can only be achieved by human hands.

Highlights

According to Hirata-san’s father, a master artisan of chasen (matcha whisk),

“The taste and enjoyment of matcha depend on the quality of the chasen. If the chasen is high quality, then the matcha will have an excellent flavour.”

This whisk is made entirely by hand by Hirata-san and his father.

Together, the two of them can only make 10 a day, while the demand for their master artisan whisks is beyond their capacity even in Japan alone.

Their knowledge is passed down from generation to generation. Hirata-san has been making matcha whisks by hand for 20 years, and his father for over 50 years.

They use the same craft techniques as 500 years ago.

Hirata-san invites you to take pleasure in choosing your matcha tea utensils. Because an excellent whisk will produce a flavoursome matcha.

This whisk is actually a precious and rare work of art.

Be sure to always keep this delicate piece dry and wipe it with a dry cloth after use.

How to care for your handmade matcha whisk

Hirata-san gave me several tips and answers:

  • The bamboo used to make an artisanal bamboo whisk is naturally very hard, and it is inevitable that at some point it will break.
  • Under the best conditions, your matcha whisk will not break for 2 to 3 years, or even much longer.

Here are several tips to maximize its lifespan.

  • do not expose to direct sunlight
  • Do not expose it to drafts (wind, air conditioning) or temperature changes (near an oven or heat source, radiator, etc.).
  • Use it regularly (at least once a week or a little less) so that there is a little moisture present.

les détails du "shinari" : signifie "être plié" ou "flexibilité". Atteindre le shinari ne peut pas être accompli par une machine, il faut que chaque brin soit travaillé à la main, un par un.

  • Handcrafted matcha tea whisk made in Japan and handmade by Hirata-san and his father
  • black bamboo with 5 threads in 3 shades of green - 60-70 strands
