energy balls matcha

This recipe is quick and easy to realise: it's a healthy and delicious snack!
As their name suggests, matcha energy balls are a source of energy for our bodies. They are the perfect snack before exercise or to recover after a workout. They are also an excellent option for when you feel peckish during the working day.

Matcha energy balls: discover the benefits of their ingredients

  • Almonds are rich in healthy fats, which are essential fuel for the brain and therefore perfect for getting through a day of stimulating labour that is demanding on cognitive functions. Nuts are also a source of fiber, which lowers the glycemic index of dates and promotes healthy digestion.
  • Dates are rich in fast-acting sugars, which provide an energy boost and are also useful for endurance exercises.
  • Black sesame is an essential ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine. It is rich in protein and calcium. It is also a source of zinc, which helps strengthen the nervous system.
  • And of course matcha: a superfood rich in antioxidants, it promotes focus, boosts energy, and helps burn fat.

For our version of energy balls, I chose delicious organic Okumidori matcha for its smooth and creamy taste, which goes very well with black sesame.

Ingredients for 15 energy balls:

  • 150 g of almonds
  • 140g of dates
  • 100g black sesame paste
  • 10g of Okumidori organic matcha
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons of black sesame seeds
  • 1 generous pinch of salt

    Preparation:

Place the almonds, pitted dates, matcha powder, black sesame paste, and salt in a blender.

Mix until you obtain a smooth, sticky dough.

Take small servings of dough and roll them by hand to form balls.

Roll the balls in black sesame seeds.

Place the balls in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to firm up before tasting them.

Tip: if the mixture is not thick enough, adjust the texture by adding a little sesame paste or a few dates.

How should energy balls be stored?

In a freezer bag or airtight container, they can be stored for 1 week in the refrigerator and up to 2 months in the freezer. This is handy if you want to make them in advance.
