In addition to being delicious, matcha tea can also do a lot for your skin.
According to research from our friend Jimmy Braun of the Blog Nutrition Santé, matcha reduces inflammation, brightens the complexion and prevents premature aging, may help treat oily skin, and works gently on all skin types. I recommend reading the article about it here: 4 natural benefits of matcha green tea for the skin.
Using matcha tea in homemade cosmetics can also be a great way to avoid waste when your matcha tea has oxidized and become more bitter and less green, or when the expiration date has passed.
Sabine has prepared a wonderful matcha tea body butter recipe for us. A rich, skin-repairing product that also benefits from the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of matcha tea.
For 4 small jars of body butter:
Ingredients
- 115 g of organic shea butter
- 55 g of organic coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons of natural yellow beeswax
- 1 teaspoon of pure Vitamin E
- 1 tablespoon of organic Okumidori matcha
- Peppermint essential oil (2-3 drops, to taste)
- 4 jars of about 100 ml
Melt the shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax over low heat, stirring constantly.
Remove from the heat and pour into the bowl of a stand mixer. Place the bowl in the fridge for about 10 minutes, until the top sets and the mixture has cooled completely.
Then remove from the fridge and add the Vitamin E. Place the bowl on the mixer and whip everything at high speed for 5 minutes (without a mixer: mix by hand ^^').
Reduce to medium speed and add the matcha little by little. Add the drops of peppermint essential oil. Mix. Transfer into jars.
